Hartington Seniors fell to Crofton
CREIGHTON —  Fine pitching was on display here Tuesday as the Hartington Seniors fell to Crofton 2-0 in the league championship game.
Hartington ace Eric Hames and Crofton’s Nick Hegge went head to head for seven innings keeping opposing offenses at bay.
Crofton’s two runs came in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the fifth as Scott Donner and Nick Hegge came home on two straight squeeze bunts by Nick Jansen and Taylor Schumacher.
Hegge took over on the mound from there surrendering only one hit to Hartington bats through the final two innings to earn the complete game shut out win.
Hames had a superb pitching performance in the loss as he pitched his way out of jams in the first and second innings to keep the game at a 0-0 tie going into the game-deciding fifth inning.
Hegge kept the Seniors off balance all game as he struck out nine batters while only allowing one Hartington runner to reach third all game in leading Crofton to the league championship.
Hartington and Crofton will both be in action in districts as the tournament gets underway in Hartington starting Friday.
