Heat wave broils Northeast Nebraska
Temperatures smashed through the 100-degree barrier across Northeast Nebraska Saturday and Sunday.
Several state and regional records were broken during the heat wave.
The National Weather Service had a report of 120 degrees in northwest South Dakota, said Todd Heitkamp, a meteorologist at the Sioux Falls office.
Temperatures hit 100 in Yankton.
``There’s a lot of records that are falling across the state,’’ Heitkamp said.
The heat wave is the result of plenty of dry air and warm temperatures aloft from North Dakota down to Texas, Heitkamp said.
``We’re not alone. This is across much of the entire country,’’ he said.
High winds were also a concern, as the western three-quarters of the state was under a red flag warning that signals critical fire weather conditions.
