Roland Renstrom
ELBOW LAKE, Minn. — Roland Renstrom, 84, rural Elbow Lake, Minn., died March 1, 2007, at the ELEAH Center, Elbow Lake.
Funeral services were March 6 at the Bethlehem-West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake, with the Rev. Weston Moir officiating.
Burial was in Union Cemetery, Elbow Lake. Pallbearers were his grandsons: Brad Schmidt, Kevin Schmidt, Jeff Schmidt, Byron Sletto, Emery Sletto, Ross Kuchta and Wade Kuchta. Arrangements were with the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Elbow Lake.
Roland was born Nov. 18, 1922, to Carl and Hanna (Anderson) Renstrom, the eighth of 11 children. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Swedish Church, Elbow Lake. He graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1941.
Roland enlisted in the Armed Services Sept. 30, 1946, and served in the Korean War as a diesel mechanic until his discharge Sept. 29, 1949.
He married Evelyn Melby Aug. 31, 1952. They farmed in Grant County until 1995.
Roland enjoyed retirement, keeping busy with lawn and garden activities. He had a passion for conservation, planting many trees during his lifetime and building up the soil of the farms that he owned.
Roland is survived by his wife Evelyn, Elbow Lake; daughters and spouses Cindy and Jerry Schmidt, Fergus Falls, Minn.; Patty and Irving Sletto, Brandon, Minn.; and Vickie and Larry Kuchta, Canby, Minn., formerly of Coleridge; grandchildren, Sharon, Brad, Kevin and Jeff Schmidt; Byron and Emery Sletto; amd Amanda, Ross and Wade Kuchta; brothers, Gordon, Elk View, W.Va.; Jerome Elbow Lake, Minn.; and Carlton, Elbow Lake, Minn.; and a sister, Marvel, Conncord, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerhard, Rueben, LeRoy, Harland, and John; a sister, Evelyn; and an infant daughter.
