Raymond Obermeyer
GOLDEN, Colo. — Raymond Obermeyer, 92, died Feb. 7, 2007, in Moore, Okla., surrounded by family.
Public visitation was Feb. 15, and prior to Funeral Services Feb. 16, both held at Olinger Woods Chapel, Golden, Colo.
Raymond was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Coleridge, and attended Coleridge High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of a tank retrieval crew in North Africa and Italy. He returned to Nebraska after the war and farmed until moving to Golden in 1957. He worked at a salvage yard before taking a custodial position at the courthouse. He was then employed by Mountain Bell and retired from that position in 1979.
Ray was an avid lifetime member and volunteer of VFW Post 4171, serving as an original member of the All Veterans Honor Guard, attending hundreds of memorial services honoring deceased veterans. He was a lifetime member of the Cooties Silver Dollar Pup Tent #1 located in Denver. He was Grand Commander of the Cooties 1987-1988 and devoted 4000 hours as a hospital volunteer. He was also a member of the American Legion and a ten-year member of the Pleasant View Fire Department.
Raymond was a passionate fisherman and also enjoyed hunting and carpentry.
He is survived by his son and spouse, Raymond and Jerry Obermeyer, Jr., Moore, Okla.; two grandchildren and spouses, Dwayne and Nannette Obermeyer, Moore, Okla., and Linda Carol and David Barnard, Elk City, Okla.; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, April, Brian, Candess, and Raymond Obermeyer; and Joshua Barnard, and Nicole and husband, Darrin Elder; and sister-in-law, Irene Obermeyer, Golden, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Ada; and his first wife, Lucille; and siblings, Robert Obermeyer, Effie Thomas and Helen Harper.
