Priscilla G. Shope
Priscilla G. Shope, age 94, of Fremont and formerly of Hartington, died on Friday, May 25, 2007 at the Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 10:30 am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hartington with Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial will be in the Coleridge Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm with a time of sharing and video tribute at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Patrick Shope, Tim Ponder, Randy Ponder, Pam Jacobsen, Penny Ponder, Chris Jacobsen, Tammy Jacobsen, and Jesse Hinrichs.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam and Elizabeth Hinrichs.
Priscilla Gertrude Shope was born on September 6, 1912 in Nashville, Illinois to Thomas Alva and Gertrude Cecelia (Dempsay) Hutchings. She came to the Laurel area in 1919 and graduated from Hartington High School in 1931. She married Clarence Shope on March 15, 1932 in Coleridge, NE. She and Clarence lived in the Hartington and Laurel area until moving into Hartington in 1968. Priscilla helped Clarence with the janitorial work at the church, cleaned for several businesses and residents in Hartington and did a lot of wallpapering. Clarence died on September 29, 1997. Priscilla became a resident of Beverly Squares in October of 2004 and lived there until moving to Fremont in January of 2005.
She was a member of the First Congregational U.C.C. and the Ladies Circle. She was a former Deaconess. She loved to cook, bake, music, and be with her family. When she was younger she loved to fish.
Priscilla is survived by four children and spouses, Harold and Cathy Shope of David City, NE, Darlene and R.L. Ponder of Roy, Utah, Ellen and Gary Jacobsen of Omaha, NE, and Linda Hinrichs of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence in 1997, six sisters, Vervie Pettit, Virgie Starks, Vernie Forinash, Verdie Keifer, Claretta Christensen, and Laura Lou McIntyre.
