Crofton — Mary Katherine Sawatzke, 51, Crofton, died April 14, 2007, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton,S.D.
Visitation, with a video tribute, was April 17 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be April 18, at 2 p.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with Rev. Joseph Broudou officiating.
Burial will be in the Crofton City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be six of her brothers, Dick, Bill, Jim, Joe, Paul and Greg Johnson.
Mary was born March 11, 195,6 at Vermillion, S.D., to LaRue and Loretta (Hueston) Johnson. She grew up in Vermillion and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1974. She married Kim Sawatzke May 28, 1977, at Vermillion. They lived in Hartington until 1987, during which time Mary worked at J&R Pharmacy and the Cedar’s Nursing Home. They moved to Crofton in 1987 and Mary graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion with an RN degree. She worked as an RN at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, from 1988-1998. She loved her flower garden and took care of the flowers at the baseball field and the north park. She loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband Kim, Crofton; two children, Ben Sawatzke and his fiancée, Krystal Roach, Greenville, N.C.; and April Knapp and her husband, Aaron, Columbus; four grandchildren, Kody, Kamden, Isabel and Rylen; her mother, Loretta Johnson, Vermillion, S.D.; nine brothers and sisters and their spouses, Donna Mary Chancellor, Burbank, S.D.; Ron and Marge Johnson, Yakima, Wash.; Jane and Jim Boyd, Cottage Grove, Minn.; Dick and Mary Ann Johnson, West Milton, Ohio; Bill and Cheryl Johnson, Vermillion, S.D.; Jim and Ann Johnson, Vermillion, S.D.; Joe and Wanda Johnson, Vermillion, S.D.; Paul and Diane Johnson, Vermillion, S.D.; and Greg and Nancy Johnson, Waukee, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father LaRue Johnson.
