Kenneth M. Kube
Crofton — Kenneth M. Kube, 79, Crofton, died Feb. 5, 2007, at the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Bloomfield.
Visitation, with a rosary, Vigil Service and video tribute, was Feb. 8 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton.
Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 9 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Broudou and Rev. Timothy Lange officiating.
Burial was at St. Rose Cemetery, with military rites by the Crofton American Legion Post #128.
Pallbearers were Joe Hoebelheinrich, Neil Poppe, Danny Kube, Travis Duerst, Ryan Schmidt, Jonathan Goeden, Cody Watson and Chad Schell.
Honorary pallbearers were Neil Hoebelheinrich, Brandon Duerst, Gaylon Hoebelheinrich, Jay Poppe, Kyle Duerst, Brett Schmidt, Dustin Kube, Andrew Goeden and Austin Kube.
Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton, was in charge of arrangements.
Ken was born Nov. 16, 1927, to Frank and Elizabeth (Meyer) Kube on a farm southwest of Crofton. He grew up in the Crofton area and attended Pleasant Hill School and St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. He graduated from Crofton High School in 1945. He was engaged in farming with his father and brother when he was drafted into the Army. He served in Germany 1951-1953, during the Korean Conflict. While in Europe, he was fortunate to be able to take weekend passes and visit Italy, France and Switzerland. While in Rome he was in the audience of the pope. He married Charleen Feilmeier Sept. 9, 1953, in Bow Valley. They lived and farmed west of Crofton for 47 years.
He enjoyed raising purebred Simmental and Angus cattle. He also enjoyed dancing, reading and spending a month or so in the winter in Arizona with his son Gary, Faith and family. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knox County Cattlemen’s Association. He served several years on the rural Fire Board, and was a lifetime member of the Crofton American Legion Post #128 and past commander. He and Charleen were members of the Yankton and Hartington Square Dance Clubs. He built two farmsteads, first with the help of his father, the second with the help of his sons.
He is survived by his wife, Charleen, Crofton; 11 children and spouses, Gary and Faith Kube, Cave Creek, Ariz.; Donna Schmidt, Yankton, S.D.; Dean and Marcia Kube, Lincoln; Karen and Gary Poppe, Bloomfield; Loren and Cheryl Kube, Crofton; Doris and Rolly Goeden, Crofton; Ann and Rick Watson, Grand Island; Paula Kube, Omaha; David and Debbie Kube, Crofton; Cheryl and Scott Finanger, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Marcel and Leisa Kube, Norfolk; 29 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Kube, Crofton; three sisters and spouses, Arlene and Jim Jaycox, Bolivar, Mo.; Jeanette and Melvin Lammers, Yankton, S.D.; and Dorothy and Bud Hesse, Gravette, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents; one grandson, Jesse Poppe; three granddaughters, Tracey, Amy and Christy Kube; two brothers, Francis and Dennis Kube; and a sister-in-law, Marie Kube.
