Jerome James Noecker
Bow Valley — Jerome James Noecker, 79, Bow Valley, died Feb. 2, 2007, at the Golden Living Center, Hartington.
Visitation and a rosary were Feb. 5 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, with a Vigil Service that evening at Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, Bow Valley. Visitation continued one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 6, at Holy Family (Sts Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Keating officiating.
Burial was in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Bow Valley, with military honors by the Wynot American Legion Post 31.
Pallbearers were Zach Snyder, Brett Noecker, Tommy Thoene, Adam Noecker, Ben Anderson, Jonathon Flores and Josh Creekmore.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Jerome James was born Oct. 26, 1927, in Bow Valley, to August and Thekla (Stevens) Noecker. He grew up on the family farm near Bow Valley. He attended Bunker Hill and St. Peter and Paul School, Bow Valley, and attended Ag College in Lincoln before being drafted to the Army. He farmed northeast of Hartington on a farm homesteaded by his great-grandfather. He married Doris Haberman, Aug. 21, 1951.
He was very involved in his community and served on many committees, including the Cedar County Farmers Union Cooperative, National Farmers Union Dairy Task Force, A.M.P.I. Cooperative Board, Small Farm Energy Advisory Board, the Bow Valley Park Association and Schuetzenfest Committee (1996, 2000, 2005), Catholic Order of Foresters, Legion of Mary, Center for Rural Affairs, Golden Rod Hills Board, the Northeast Area Agency on Aging Board and the Wynot American Legion Post 31.
He served as a Cedar County Commissioner and he was instrumental in getting the road paved into Bow Valley. In the year 2000, he also contributed help to getting St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church recognized on the National Register of Historical Places.
Jerome was a member of the St. Peter and Paul and Holy Family Catholic Church. He and Doris enjoyed traveling together. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, tractor pulls and he loved to dance. He spent many hours in his woodworking shop making gifts for friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris, Bow Valley; ten children and their spouses; Rick and Kathy Noecker, Bow Valley; Karen and Danny Thoene, Bow Valley; Bill and Laura Noecker, Hartington; Diane Anderson, Hartington, and her special friend, Chuck Bruning, Slayton, Minn.; Darlene and John Flores, Hereford, Texas; Lou Ann and Roy Creekmore, Hartington; Jeani and Steve Guenther, Papillion; Mark and Leah Noecker, Hartington; Steve and Karen Noecker, Hartington; Randy and Donna Noecker, Blair; and son-in-law and spouse, Russ and Cathy Snyder, Albuquerque, N.M.; 38 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three sisters and their spouses, Mildred and Bernie Bernard, Pocahontas, Iowa; Florence Becker, Hutchinson, Minn.; and Lorraine and George Feilmeier, Hartington; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie Snyder; son, James Noecker; granddaughter, Priscilla Flores; great-grandson, Damien Thoene; two brothers, Roman and Loran Noecker; and in-laws, Leonard and Mary Haberman.
