Joseph F. Ketter Jr.
Joseph F. Ketter Jr., age 73, of Yankton, South Dakota died March 29, 2007 at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM, on Monday, April 2, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend David Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791. Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, on Sunday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 PM. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral at church.
Pallbearers are Brandon Lloyd, Joshua Larsen, and grandsons: Joe Wipf Jr., Michael Schaefer, Joshua Wipf, Kyle Walter and Alexander Ketter. Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters: Kristina Lloyd, Laura Schaefer, Melissa Walter, Katie Wipf, Maggie Ketter, Kellie Ketter and great granddaughters: Midori Wipf and Aubrie Lloyd.
Joseph was born March 13, 1934 in Yankton, South Dakota to Joseph Sr. and Oda (Jensen) Ketterer. He grew up in the Wakonda and Irene area and graduated from Wakonda High School in 1952. After school, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Japan for 2 years during the Korean War. On September 2, 1956, Joe married Betty Jacobson in Viborg, South Dakota. Joe was employed at Stuelpnagel’s for a short time and then worked in the construction and painting business for several years. He worked for the Corps of Engineers as a painter for seven years and then was employed at Alcoa Extrusions for 20 years until his retirement. Joe was a life member of the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791 in Yankton and Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Yankton Senior Citizens and the Yankton Scramblers. Joe served as the secretary for the Monday night bowling league for many years and was also a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed hunting and doing crossword puzzles. He loved to go fishing and camping with his family and following his grandchildren in sports.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Ketter of Yankton; four children: Mary and her fiancé, Fred Roper of St. Helena, Nebraska, Connie (Joseph) Wipf of Yankton; Bonnie (Delmar Jr.) Walter of Plainview, Nebraska and Joseph (Barbara) Ketter of Yankton; 11 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; mother, Oda Schotanus of Oklahoma City; brother, Roger (Lois) Ketterer of Missoula, Montana; two sisters, Kathleen (Newt) Hackett of Oklahoma City and Joyce (Jerry) Reining of Sioux City, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Ketterer Sr.; sister, Ileen Guilliam; brother, Robert Ketterer; and a great granddaughter, Alyssa Walter.
