John Froistad
Spring Valley, Calif. — John Froistad, 53, Spring Valley, Calif., died May 5, 2007, from complications of lung cancer.
Services were May 10 at Journey Community Church, La Mesa, Calif.
Burial was in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
John was born March 17, 1954, to Marvin and Carchita Froistad, in Yankton, S.D., and grew up in Hartington. He was a 1972 graduate of Hartington Public School.
He married Vicki Smith June 24, 1978, in San Diego, Calif.
After serving in the Navy, he worked at the La Mesa Post Office for 26 years. He was a non-smoker and active in Boy Scouts. He loved the outdoors, hiking and bicycling long distances. He participated in the Bike Ride across Nebraska three years, once with his wife, Vicki, once with his nephew, Troy Froistad, and once with his daughter, Lisa.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Erica, and daughter, Lisa, all of Spring Valley, Calif.; mother, Mickie Cooper, Hartington; brothers and spouses, Lynn and Anita, Bangor, Maine; Marvin and Shelley, Loveland, Colo.; Jerry and Barb, Ashland; Michael and Lori, Omaha; sisters and spouses, Loretta and Steve Falkinburg, Lexington; Debbie and Duane Thoene, Lincoln; Roberta and Phil Lammers, Hartington; and Deanna Howard, Lincoln; and 26 nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Froistad.
Donations can be made to the “Journey Up” church fund or to the Lung Cancer Alliance.
