Herbert E. Mattner
Wynot — Herbert E. Mattner, 91, Wynot, died March 24, 2007, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Visitation was March 30 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Graveside services were March 31at the Raeville Cemetery, Raeville, with Deacon Bill Camp officiating, and Military Rites conducted by the Petersburg American Legion Post 334.
Herbert Ernest Mattner was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Kenosha, Wis., to Adolph and Emilie (Martin) Mattner. He spent six and one half years in the Navy and survived Pearl Harbor in 1941. After he returned from the Navy, he settled in San Francisco, Calif., where he met and married Florentine Fangman. They later divorced. He sold real estate and insurance before retiring and moving to Nebraska in 1983. Herbert married Christine Ballard Klanderud Nov. 13, 1984, in Obert.
He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Town and Country Square Dance Club and the Missouri River Jumpers Camping Club.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Christine, Wynot; one son and his wife, Dennis and Mary Mattner, Raeville; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Mattner, Pacheco, Calif.; one daughter, JoAnn Mattner, Redwood City, Calif.; three grandchildren, Jason, Jeannette and Desiree; three great-grandchildren, Deanna, Andy and Ryan; two brothers, Ernest, Green Valley, Ariz., and Walter and wife, Sandy Mattner, Tigertown, Wis.; one sister, Hattie Strange, Kenosha, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Mattner, Kenosha, Wis., and Lucille Mattner, Kenosha, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Les; and four brothers, Ozzie, Ted, August and Al Mattner.
