Newcastle — Darlene K. Olander, 76, Newcastle died May 18, 2007, at the Elm Health Center, Ponca, following a long illness.
Visitation, with a vigil service, was May 21 in the Parish Hall in Newcastle.
Services were May 22 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Newcastle, with Father David Liewer officiating.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle.
Pallbearers were Robert Tanderup, Chad Kuchta, Brent Gothier, Chris Olander, Jeff Olander, Ryan Olander, Sean Dowler, Ian Olander, Sam Emswiler and Vijay Olander
Arrangements were under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Darlene was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Newcastle, to Joseph and Iola (McCracken) Power. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1947 and was a lifelong resident of Newcastle. She married Lloyd Olander April 14, 1948, in Newcastle. She was a cook at the Newcastle Public School for 25 years and sold Watkins Products for over 20 years.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd, Newcastle; ten children and spouses, Joe and Sherry Olander, Sioux City, Iowa; John and Carol, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Jim Olander, Newcastle; Tom and Terri Olander, Bloomfield; Madonna Tanderup, Dixon; Mary and Barney Kuchta, Dixon; Marcella and Dan Gothier, Fordyce; Bob and Becci Olander, Lincoln; Clarice and Rusty Emswiler, Norman, Okla.; Pat Olander, Lincoln; one sister, Phyllis Heydon, Sioux City, Iowa; 31 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Clarice Amable; a son-in-law, Merrill Tanderup; and a daughter-in-law, Therese Olander; and a great-grandson, Matthew Christopher Olander.
