Carsten Graverholt
Laurel — Carsten Graverholt, 84, Laurel, died May 20, 2007, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., May 23, at United Lutheran Church, Laurel, with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., May 24, at United Lutheran Church, Laurel, with Rev. Lynn Qualm officiating.
Interment, with Military Rites, will be at the Laurel City Cemetery Laurel
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ryan Graverholt, Jeffrey Graverholt, Scott Graverholt and Brett Graverholt.
Active Pallbearers will be Dallas Hanson, Lee Dahl, Mike Reiken, Wade Osburn, Paul Perske and Larry Weitjen.
Carsten M. Graverholt was born Dec. 19, 1922, on a farm in Wayne County to Hans Christian and Tomina (Thomsen) Graverholt. He attended Cedar County School District #103. He farmed southwest of Laurel all of his life except when he served in the U.S. Cavalry in the Asiatic Pacific from June 20, 1944-May 16, 1946. Carsten married Phyllis Hinrichs Feb. 28, 1948, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church Parsonage, Laurel, and the couple continued to farm near Laurel retiring in 1987. Carsten entered the Hillcrest Care Center Jan. 12, 2007.
He was a member of the United Lutheran Church, Laurel; Laurel V.F.W. #4504; was Past President of Cedar County Rural School District #103; and was an Archer oil dealer for over 30 years.
Carsten very much enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, Laurel; three sons and spouses, David and Terri Graverholt, Norfolk; Robert and Pamela Graverholt, Olathe, Kan.; and Ronald and Laura Graverholt, Elko, Nev.; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; one sister, Carrie Dahl, Laurel; nieces and nephews.
Carsten was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hasemann-Schumacher Funeral Home, Laurel.
